Meet the UDG Admissions Team
What happens after a new international student application is submitted through UDayton Global? The answer is A LOT. Before a new international student ever arrives on the University of Dayton campus, it takes a team of dedicated and knowledgeable people to ensure each admissions step happens correctly and at the right time. From the moment an application is received, the UDayton Global Admissions team is on it.
Let’s meet the folks on the UDayton Global on-campus admissions team!
Lindsey Garbenis, Direction of Admissions
As the Director of Admissions, I have the privilege of working closely with students and counselors to assist with admitting students to the University of Dayton. I process applications, review and uphold the university’s admissions criteria, work closely with university departments and, of course – share good news to the students of their acceptances! My team and I are focused on providing a positive and smooth admission experience for students from all over the world.
What I love most about my position is being part of a student’s life-changing experience and watching students evolve during their time in the U.S. It is so rewarding and so much fun. I also love working closely with all the departments on campus to create a positive student experience.
More about Lindsey
I graduated with my BS in Marine Biology from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and earned my MBA from Hawaii Pacific University. I have worked in international education for more than 10 years in various capacities: international recruitment, admissions, English language center, orientation and student support. I have traveled to 26 different countries to meet students, hear their stories, learn their culture and assist them in accomplishing their dreams!
Outside of work I love spending time with family. I have 2 young kiddos that keep me active and busy. We love to be outdoors, travel, read and play sports. In addition, I love to spend time with my animals, work in my garden and complete projects around the house.
Lara McElrath, International Admissions Coordinator
As the International Admissions Coordinator, my primary role is to issue I-20s for our students. I also track applications throughout the admission process to help ensure accurate and timely processing and a seamless experience for our students. I’ve worked in the field of education for over 25 years. I enjoy helping students achieve their educational and personal goals. It is such an exciting time in students’ lives and I love celebrating their many accomplishments and successes with them! An added bonus…working with international students has allowed me to learn more about the countries and cultures our amazing students represent.
More about Lara
Just like our students, I am new to Ohio! I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Central Arkansas and my Master’s degree in Clinical Counseling from Pepperdine University in Southern California.
When I’m not at work, I enjoy exploring my new home city – doing everything from cycling, kayaking and hiking to taking advantage of the many festivals, cultural events and restaurants this area has to offer. I also have two amazing children who are currently finishing their degrees in the fields of Computer Science and International Business at universities in Arkansas.
Sarah (Crowe) Schmidt, Admissions Officer
As the Admissions Officer, I carefully process student applications in a timely fashion. I also ensure admitted students receive their highly-anticipated acceptance packets containing immigration documents and offer letters! I love the role that I play to ensure that we give our students the best possible experience at every stage: from recruitment, to applying to UD and eventually arriving here on campus. Meeting our students is one of the best parts of my job!
More about Sarah
I recently graduated from Valparaiso University in Indiana, where I studied International Economics and Cultural Affairs and German. During undergrad, I studied abroad in Germany for a semester and did a lot of traveling in Europe. These experiences sparked my interest in international education.
Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, reading, singing and playing tennis.
Now that you know a little more about our on-campus Admissions team, you might be wondering what success looks like for them. Well, according to Lindsey, “it’s that incredible moment when, months or even a year down the road, a name on an application form becomes a student you meet face-to-face on campus, and you can’t wait to see the great things this student will achieve here at UD.” ♥
