Participating in our Academic English program prior to beginning your degree courses can better prepare you to achieve your academic goals. We'll help you decide which level of English support is best for you.

ACADEMIC ENGLISH PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Academic English program dates align with the University of Dayton semester. Students study English for academic purposes in a university classroom setting. The Core English Language curriculum consists of seven levels, aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
ACADEMIC ENGLISH PROGRAM STRUCTURE
English classes offered by the University of Dayton Intensive English Program are designed for students ranging in proficiency from true beginner to high intermediate/advanced levels. Full-time students receive 21 hours* of faculty-led classroom instruction per week, addressing a complete range of language skills including reading and vocabulary development, writing and grammar, and oral communication. Academic listening and note-taking instruction is included at the top levels. Enrichment courses that complement the curriculum at each level are also included. Classes prepare degree-seeking students to read academic texts, write cohesive academic assignments and participate in their classroom lectures and discussions with confidence. Depending on their English proficiency, students will begin Academic English at one of the following levels:
Foundations, Levels 1 and 2
- Reading/Vocabulary — 6 hours
- Writing/Grammar — 6 hours
- Oral Communication — 6 hours
- Special Topics — 3 hours
Levels 3, 4 and 5
- Reading/Vocabulary — 6 hours
- Writing/Grammar — 6 hours
- Oral Communication/Listening & Note-Taking — 6 hours
- Special Topics — 3 hours
Levels 6 and 7*
- Reading/Vocabulary — 6 hours
- Writing/Grammar — 6 hours
- Oral Communication/Listening & Note-Taking — 6 hours
*Note: Levels 6 and 7 consist of 18 hours of instruction per week per level.

We are delighted to offer a fee reduction with early tuition payment.* Students enrolled in the fall semester may be eligible for the following discounts:
Option 1: Students who pay their full balance by May 3rd, will lock in last year’s tuition. They will also receive an exclusive academic year discount: Undergraduate students will receive $1,500 off their tuition, while postgraduate students will receive $500.
Option 2: Students who pay their full balance by May 31st, will lock in last year's cost for tuition only. Pricing will rise after this date.
*Students on payment plans are not eligible. Students participating in the 2–3 term pre-sessional bundle are not eligible. Please note that this offer is only valid for students participating in fall intake.
