Orientation is an important and mandatory program that will introduce you to the academic, social, and cultural life at the University of Dayton. Academic advising with UDayton Global empowers students to gain and expand their knowledge and pursue opportunities to achieve academic, personal, and professional goals. Academic advisors partner with students to promote their holistic development, identify academic and career resources, and encourage meaningful engagement. UDayton Global advisors also work with degree advisors across campus to educate students on degree requirements and to support their persistence and timely graduation.
UDayton Global takes a proactive and intrusive approach to advising. Students meet their Academic Advisors during orientation and advisors reach out directly to request additional meetings throughout the semester. Advising appointments are available upon request.

In the first semester of most majors, student schedules are created by UDayton Global advisors and degree advsiors. During orientation, there will be opportunities to request course changes based on availability.
*Master’s of Computer Science students have two compulsory courses added to their schedules. Graduate Direct students may select a 3rd course based on their desired career path or academic interest.
UDayton Global First partners with the Office of Learning Resources to offer tutoring support services. Students can access tutoring in a variety of subject areas via one-on-one sessions, small groups, study halls, or workshops.
Tutoring is also available through other UD departments such as the Intensive English Program and The Write Place.

How do I schedule an appointment at the Student Health Center?
- Appointments can be scheduled by phone. Please call Student Health Center at 937-229-3131 (Please have your UID# and ID card in hand)
- Students can also cancel appointments, upload and enter health immunization requirements and medical history, and scan their insurance cards online through their Porches account.
Is the UDdayton Global health insurance accepted at the Student Health Center?
Yes, the UDayton Global health insurance is accepted at the Student Health Center.
When you visit the Student Health Center, the amount is charged to your UD student account, accessible through Porches. You are not required to pay that balance. The health center submits a claim to insurance (Wellfleet) on your behalf. The refund is then processed based on your payment status.
- If you have paid the charges for your visit to the health center, you will receive a refund through Porches. Please make sure that your bank account is linked to your Porches account for electronic refunds. It may take up to 4 weeks for the refund process.
- If you have not paid the charges for your visit, then those charges will be automatically taken out of your account after the reimbursement has been processed.
How do I upload my Immunization record?
Submit your Health & Immunization forms via email to the Student Health Center at healthcenter@udaytonglobal.org.
How do I get my health insurance ID card?
You must create a Wellfleet account to access your health insurance ID card.
How do I renew my UDayton Global health insurance plan?

Can I re-enroll in health insurance coverage for one term?
Yes, term coverage is available for students who have progressed from UDayton Global
Are dental and vision coverage included in my health insurance policy?
Yes, Dental & Vision coverage is included in UDayton Global’s student insurance. Please contact our Student Services Team at studentservices@udaytonglobal.org or 212 Rike Center, for more information.
There are currently no national or state quarantine requirements for fully vaccinated international travelers entering the U.S. or Ohio but we recommend that you follow CDC guidelines. UD currently does not currently require testing or quarantine but does ask students to report vaccinations, including boosters. This may change depending on local, national or international conditions. Visit UD’s COVID-19 Health Resources page for nearby testing and vaccine options.
To protect your health, safety, and finances, the university requires international students to possess health insurance coverage for you and your family. Coverage must meet university standards, be active while you are enrolled (including vacations) and be verified every semester. Your health insurance must meet these standards:
- Cover at least a minimum of $250,000 per condition.
- Have a deductible of $500 or less per individual.
- Provide $50,000 or more for medical evacuation to your home country.
- Provide $25,000 or more for repatriation (removal of remains after death) to your home country.
- Be in effect for the entire time I am enrolled at UD, including vacations, for myself and dependents
Immigration
International Student and Scholar Services provides students and exchange visitors with immigration advising, workshops, and orientation, as well as social and extracurricular activities. ISSS extends its services and support to international faculty and research scholars and their dependents. Through collaboration with other departments and organizations, ISSS advocates on behalf of international students to ensure their academic, personal, and career goals.

The Federal government is planning to end the Public Health Emergency for COVID-19 at the end of May 2023. This change and UDs transition to majority of in-person course offerings may also impact the enrollment requirements for international students. Please visit the Immigration page for most up to date information related to Immigration & Enrollment requirements for international students at the University of Dayton.
ISSS staff are available virtually from 8:30 am-4:30 pm on weekdays. Staff are available in the office from 9:00-11:00 am Monday-Friday if you need to visit in person.
To best serve you please keep in mind the following:
- Most questions can be answered by phone, email, or virtual advising during normal business hours. If your questions are not urgent, we ask that you first email isss@udayton.edu.
- Most immigration process requests can now be submitted digitally using the ISSS request form.
- Virtual advising hour is 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Monday, Wednesday, Friday; 9:00 am to 10:00 am on Tuesday and Thursday. Click this Zoom Link to join a virtual advising hour.
- Please email us to request a phone or video appointment with an advisor if your question is not answered by email and you are unable to attend the virtual advising hour.
- In-person advising is only available by appointment, for urgent cases.
- We will still be receiving and sending mail from Rike Center 204. I-20s, DS-2019s, and other immigration documents will be mailed to you as necessary.

What are the housing rates?
For Undergraduate students: On-campus housing rates are available at University of Dayton’s Housing & Residence Life page.
All Graduate students are required to stay in graduate housing. For housing details please visit our Shorelight profile page.
When does move-in begin?

Where can I find the housing contract?
Undergraduate students can access the housing contract through the housing portal.
For Graduate students, off-campus Program Managed Housing is mandatory. All new Graduate students are required to stay at UDayton Global’s off-campus housing. Please find more information on our website. The housing assignments will be sent to your email prior to your arrival and your housing contract will be provided during check-in.

Can I change my assigned housing assignment?
Housing assignments cannot be changed pre-arrival once the final assignment is sent out. Residents can request changes after the orientation week. No changes are approved after the 2nd week of classes. All changes are subject to availability and must be approved by the Student Success Manager at UDayton Global. Changing accommodation may also result in a change of your housing cost. Please contact a Student Services team member for more information.

How do I get an SSN (Social Security Number)?
- After receiving a job offer, submit the ISSS Immigration Process Request form. This form will give ISSS the information we need to create the Social Security letter. We will email you further instructions when the letter is ready to be picked up from our office.
- Bring the form to your employer to sign. This must be an original (not-electronic) signature.
- Once the form is complete, you can follow the instructions issued by ISSS to apply at the Social Security Office downtown.
- You are eligible to begin working after you submit a receipt or letter confirming your social security number application to Student Employment.
On Campus Employment: This is a benefit available to all students maintaining valid F1 status. It is not necessary to obtain special work authorization from USCIS to work on-campus; however, you must obtain an on-campus employment certification signed by an ISSS advisor to submit to Human Resources. Please review the F-1 On-Campus Employment Online Information to make sure you understand all the policies and regulations on this type of employment.
F-1 Campus Employment Information
Curricular Practical Training (CPT): CPT is a practical training that is performed for academic credit (part of the school curriculum and commensurate to degree level) AND that is required as part of the academic plan or program curriculum from ALL students in the program.
This includes:
- Required internship, practicum, student teaching or field experience (paid or unpaid)
- Optional internships for credit (MUST be in student’s major or program of study)
- Cooperative (Co-op) education programs for credit (MUST be in student’s major or program of study

Optional Practical Training (OPT) is a period during which undergraduate and graduate students with F-1 status are permitted by the USCIS to work towards getting practical training to complement their field of studies once they have completed their program of studies. “Optional Practical Training (OPT) is temporary employment that is directly related to an F-1 student’s major area of study. Eligible students can apply to receive up to 12 months of OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies (pre-completion) and/or after completing their academic studies (post-completion). However, all periods of pre-completion OPT will be deducted from the available period of post-completion OPT.”

How can I get a receipt for fees paid during my UDayton Global program?
Please contact the UDayton Global Managing Director to get a receipt for tution and other fees.
How do I pay my tuition and fees?
Students need to pay all tuition and fees in a timely manner to avoid late fees, potential loss of scholarships, and delays in registering for classes. Click here for instructions: global.udayton.edu/prepare-for-your-program/before-you-arrive/#Payment.
American higher education is quite expensive compared to that of other countries. To offset the cost of tuition, scholarships and grants may be available.
It is more common to be awarded a scholarship and grants to be awarded prior to enrolling in an American university. However, there are some opportunities that you may be able to take advantage of.

Good Academic Standing
Students who have earned a scholarship prior to admission must show satisfactory academic progress (SAP) during their degree.
Undergraduate Students: must successfully complete a minimum of 67% (two-thirds) of cumulative credit hours attempted and maintain a 2.0 cumulative grade point average
Graduate Students: must successfully complete at least 75 percent of their cumulative attempted credit hours and to maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average

National Banks
National banks are those such as Chase, Wells Fargo, and Citibank. There are many locations across the country, providing convenience for customers.
Credit Union
Like banks, credit unions accept deposits, make loans and provide other financial services. But as member-owned and cooperative institutions, credit unions provide a safe place to save and borrow at reasonable rates.
Online Banks
Online banking means managing your bank accounts with a computer or mobile device. This includes transferring funds, depositing checks and paying bills electronically. Because there are no physical locations, often times fees are lower and interest rates are higher than at national banks. Standard services with online banking include ATM fee reimbursement, advanced security, and high accessibility.
To open a bank account, you will be asked for a number of supporting documents for your application. These might include:
- Current Passport
- Proof of address- a piece of mail will usually suffice
- A letter of enrollment from your college
- A personal identification number
- Social security number (only available if you have a job)
- Student ID number
- Passport number
- An international ID number with photo identification
- Individual taxpayer identification number
If your visa has been denied, please work with your Enrollment Services Advisor to receive a refund for your deposit.
If you have overpaid for tuition or other expenses, please contact the UDayton Global Managing Director, who will work with you to either return funds to your bank account or to apply funds to the next semester’s tuition. Refunds take approximately 45 business days (6 weeks) to process.

International Student Loans

Progression
Once you have progressed from UDayton Global by completing your program, several important changes will occur.
Billing
After you progress from UDayton Global, your tuition and fees will be paid directly to Flyer Student Services through your Porches account in My Payment Center.
Health Insurance
According to university health requirements, all international students are required to have health insurance coverage while enrolled (including vacations). Please note the expiration date of your insurance policy. After you progress, you will have the opportunity to renew your current policy, and we will gladly support you in doing so.
Academic & Career Advising
Career advising and Career Accelerator information will be available after you progress. Please contact Brittany Chill to schedule an appointment.
Going forward, you will rely on the academic advisor for your major and the ISSS office for advising. If you do not know who your academic advisor is, please contact the Academic or Student Services team and they will gladly help you with that.
The Progression Plan is the guiding principle for the courses of action taken for students as they progress from one program level to another.
Students are expected to meet academic standards enumerated and detailed below.
The undergraduate International Accelerator Program (IAP) is a non-degree program for international students lacking the required English proficiency to be admissible to degree programs at University of Dayton (UD).
General Standards
- Upon successful completion of the International Accelerator curriculum, students will receive an updated I-20 and matriculate into their degree program.
- Students must maintain compliance with University of Dayton’s academic policies and procedures.
- Students on academic probation must satisfy all the conditions of their probation before they will be considered for progression.
Visa and Attendance Requirements
- Students must maintain 6 credits in compliance with F1 visa regulations.
- – Under certain circumstances, a reduced course load may be requested.
- Students must abide by the attendance policies set forth in their course syllabi.
Academic Standards
- Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0
- Complete UDG 110 and 120 with a grade of 85% or higher
- Complete UDG 105 and 106 with a grade of D or higher
- Complete all degree courses with a grade of D or higher

- Students who do not meet the program progression requirements may be eligible for one extension term as determined by the Academic Director of UDayton Global, provided they have the potential to raise their GPA to the required minimum (2.0) in one additional term.

How to register:

- On the signup form, type your given name and family name as you are registered at your university.
- Type any email address that your university has on file for you (it can be a personal or university email).
- Create a password with at least one special character and 6-50 characters total.
- Type your password again. Write it down or save it in your browser.
- Type the full name of your university, not the abbreviation. Your status must be checked.
- Check the first box to accept the Terms & Conditions (feel free to read those first).
- Check the last box if you wish to receive emails from us.

After you register:
- After self-registering, you’ll receive an email within two business days to let you know that your account is approved (or if not, how to fix the problem). Just follow the link to log in!
- Check your spam folder if you don’t see our email within two days—or just return to the Home page linked above to try logging in with your email and password. If you encounter any trouble, just use the Live Chat button at the bottom of our Home page.
If you were pre-registered:
- Some students may be admin-registered at the request of their university to save you the trouble of signing up.
- If you get an email from Shorelight’s Center for Academic Success saying that your account has been created, just follow the link to complete your registration. You only need to create your password and check the boxes (Steps 5-10 above).
- If you are told that you were admin-registered, but you can’t find our welcome email, just go to our Home page, click “Sign up now” and complete Steps 3-10. If you can’t guess the right email or how your name was entered, use our LiveChat to get help.
Student Health Insurance
Health insurance through UDayton Global’s student health insurance plan (provided by Wellfleet) auto-renews every year.
If you are a student who has insurance through UDayton Global’s student health insurance plan and you wish to renew, then no action is required. (In addition to enrollment in your current policy, you will also receive the added benefits of vision and dental insurance. The details of your plan can be found here: www.universityhealthplans.com/)
**If you do have private insurance that meets university standards and would prefer to us this insurance over UDayton Global’s student health insurance plan, please send an email to UDayton Global’s Student Services Team at studentservices@udaytonglobal.org to let them know. Failure to provide this information will result in your continued enrollment in UDayton Global’s insurance plan.

Transfer Students
As you prepare for your arrival, it is important to plan early so that you have access to accurate coursework planning and registration guidance prior to the start of the semester.
How to prepare for arrival as a transfer student:
- Submit your official transcripts and/or credit-by-exam results no later than two weeks prior to arrival for final and official review of your transfer credits. Importantly, you should submit official transcripts as early as possible to ensure your final transfer credits are posted prior to arrival. Transcripts can be submitted through the contact information listed below.

If you have completed credit from International Baccalaureate (IB), Cambridge A Levels, and/or Advanced Placement (AP), students are highly advised to submit their official exam transcriptions as soon as the official score(s) are available. Below, you can find important ordering and submission information for each of the accepted exams. Please note exam scores must be officially reviewed/approved by the university for credit to be granted.
- Collect course descriptions and/or course syllabi. These are required in evaluating international transfer credit course equivalencies.
- Confirm that all official transcripts have been received by the Office of Recruitment & Admissions prior to arrival. Allow for ample delivery time for mailed transcripts.
- Once completed, your final transfer credit evaluation will be visible on your UDayton degree audit. Review the results with a member of the UDayton Global team to see how your degree and major requirements are affected.
- Upon arrival, attend your required academic orientation. The UDayton Global team will be present for additional support. We are excited to welcome you — please introduce yourself and say hi! Be sure to let us know you’re a transfer student, too!
- Register for classes. With your transfer credits in mind, the UDayton Global team will offer support in course selection to ensure accurate coursework planning.
- Follow up and ensure all materials have been received. Official transcripts are required to register for a future term and for accurate coursework planning.
